Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Michigan nearly $200 million to upgrade tracks between Dearborn and Kalamazoo for a future Detroit to Chicago high-speed rail corridor.
On Wednesday, the department awarded Michigan and four other Midwest states a combined $268.2 million to purchase next-generation, American-made trains to ride those rails.
